Genre:
Genre is the style or category that is used as a way to categorise different products that share similar features or characteristics. Some film genres are:

• Horror
• Drama
• Comedy
• Action
• Adventure
• Scientific fiction
• Romance
• Musical
• Thriller
• Documentary
• Family

Sub- Genre:
Sub- genre is when you combine two genres together. For example:

• Genre= Comedy, Sub-genre= romance/ comedy (rom-com)
• Genre= Drama, Sub-genre= Drama+action= Disaster
• Genre= Family, Sub-genre= family/ romance

Hybrid Genre:
Hybrid genre is when you combine three genres together. For example:

• Genre= Comedy, Sub-genre= romance/ comedy (rom-com), Hybrid genre= Romance, Comedy, British
• Genre= Drama, Sub-genre= Drama+action= Disaster, Hybrid genre= Drama, action, natural disaster
• Genre= Family, Sub-genre= family/ romance, Hybrid genre= Family, Sci-fi, romance, thriller

Codes and conventions:
Codes are systems of signs, which create meaning. Codes can be divided in to two categories, technical and symbolic. Conventions are the generally accepted ways of doing something. Examples for this are:

• Font
• Logo
• Setting
• Colour scheme
• Lighting

Genre Tropes:
A word or phrase or image that is used in a new and different way in order to create an artistic effect. 
                                                             

                                   My 3 Favourite Genres


1. Horror

Medium close up of a male character on the phone looking through his blinds. The characters facial expressions convey that he is afraid which is one of the main conventions for a horror movie. It seems like someone is watching over him or he is watching over someone while he is on the phone.
I prefer this genre because it is interesting to watch as it builds tension of what will happen which I really enjoy watching.

2. Comedy

High angle shot of the characters who are girls all sitting down and talking. The setting is in a school and it seems like these girls are talking about someone. It is abit difficult to identify the genre in one still image but as I have watched this film I know what it is. I prefer comedy as they make me laugh and it is interesting and fun to sit down and watch. 

3. Romance

This is a medium long shot of a female sitting down on the male characters lap, the setting is quite warm and cosy in a living room with the fire place on. Both characters are making eye contact making the image look intense. I enjoy romance films because they are fun and warm to watch.
