(3) The Film Before The Film
The original purpose was to ensure that no contract duties were violated. The first person to use a title sequence was Thomas Edison 1897.
Film makers and title designers elaborately designed opening title sequences to grab audience attention before the film had even started.
During the 1950s the title sequences became short films in themselves, they did more than introduce the film actors and auxiliaries.
The credit at the start are used to engage the audience and have become apart of the cinematic space. Saul Bass was a renowned opening title designer and was particularly known for his co-operatism with producers i.e. Alfred Hitcock.
Superman was the first digitally generated opening title sequence, it fascinated the audience because of its multi-dimensional, moving ways that was seen physicallly impossible.
